This was reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/us-authorities-begin-releasing-some-seized-cryptocurrency-miners-industry-2025-03-05\/\">Reuters<\/a>, citing Taras Kulik, head of Synteq Digital.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Evidently, there were people in the CBP who disliked bitcoin mining, so they wanted to create a headache for the entire sector, and they quite succeeded,&#8221; he noted.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ethan Vera, Chief Operating Officer of the mining company Luxor Technology, emphasized that only a small portion of the equipment has been released. The remaining units are still under customs control.<\/p>\n<p>The delays in importing Bitmain&#8217;s Antminer S21 and T21 ASIC miners <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/us-customs-detain-antminer-shipments-at-ports\">began<\/a> back in the autumn of 2024. The restrictions did not affect equipment from other Chinese manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>Presumably, this is related to the use of AI chips from the Chinese company Sophgo, which is under trade sanctions. The CBP&#8217;s actions were taken at the request of the Federal Communications Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Some companies reported high storage costs for the detained devices. For instance, one company stated that the bill for storing 200 ASICs exceeded $200,000.<\/p>\n<p>The release of the miners occurred against the backdrop of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/02\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-imposes-tariffs-on-imports-from-canada-mexico-and-china\/\">introduction<\/a> of 10% tariffs on Chinese imports by the administration of US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>According to data from <a href=\"https:\/\/chainbulletin.com\/bitcoin-mining-map\/\">The Chain Bulletin<\/a>, about 38% of bitcoin mining power is concentrated in the US. Major American players include MARA Holdings, Core Scientific, CleanSpark, and Riot Platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Back in December, Bitmain <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitmain-to-establish-bitcoin-miner-production-in-the-us\">announced<\/a> the launch of a production line in the US.
