Seizing the moment, Lina Valitova, with the help of burning wormwood smoke, the light of Japanese candles, a crystal ball and virtual powder made from the bones of a neuro‑leprechaun, examined planetary influences on the industry.

In this piece you will find bitcoin’s natal chart, a transcript of a spiritist round table with astrologer‑economists of the past, and a lunar trading calendar built on data analytics.

Part one. Consider the celestial picture of that frosty evening: Capricorn and Aquarius dominated the sky. The Sun in Capricorn endows the first cryptocurrency with grit and ambition; the Moon in Aries adds the brashness of a pioneer.

You will also notice a rare opposition between Saturn and Uranus. Indeed: the traditional financial system (Saturn in Virgo) met a revolutionary idea head‑on (Uranus in Pisces). Bitcoin’s birth was marked by conflict, prefiguring the high volatility of digital gold.

Another key aspect is Mars conjunct Pluto in Capricorn. This powerful pairing gave bitcoin the capacity to disrupt and transform financial foundations. Small wonder the launch of BTC coincided with a global crisis: Pluto had just begun its journey through Capricorn, heralding an economic rebuild. Mars, exalted in Capricorn, bestowed remarkable stamina on the Bitcoin network — it keeps running, come what may.

A virtual spiritist meetup: forecasts from great astrologers

Disclaimer

Forecasts by dead astrologers, even great ones, are not a tool of economic analysis and must not be used for investment decisions.

To go beyond the standard reading, I sought the views of the classics. I reckon around 2027 the market will start to surge again. But the stars show, first, you should not wait to invest (bitcoin has sufficiently strong “innate” qualities), and second, you should not be greedy: this period will be historically unstable.

FL: Will Ethereum become more valuable than bitcoin?

Louis de Wohl: During a powerful rally ether may briefly overtake bitcoin by market capitalisation. Because the answer is “yes”.

Part two. Esoteric and occult

After dismissing the spirits and sprinkling the keyboard with calendula tincture, I turned to data. My question was simple: do crypto prices depend on the phases of the Moon? And if so, can one trade by a lunar calendar — buy on the waxing Moon, sell on the waning one, and on the full Moon flash a cold wallet at the sky?

Armed with a historical price dataset and a couple of spells for Excel, I returned to ChatGPT — a 24/7 channel to the beyond. The goal: compile a lunar trading calendar to, quite literally, run a “moon‑to‑moon” strategy.

The dataset description says it contains price histories of 23 of the most influential cryptocurrencies from 2013 to mid‑2021 — roughly 100 lunar cycles. The chatbot located a lunar‑phase calendar on its own. For broader analysis I counted the day before and the day after each phase change, including them in the price analytics.

Overall conclusion

The analytics suggest that on a waxing Moon markets more often perk up, and on a waning Moon they exhale — confirming an earlier study by Binance user DBF_CONFIDENCE. Naturally, it is not that simple, and it does not apply to all coins equally. For example, in our sample bitcoin rose in about ~55% of cases around new moons versus ~40% around full moons. Ethereum showed similar numbers (~52% versus ~38%). For some altcoins the effect was more pronounced.

Those that were especially “lunar‑sensitive” included TRON — up in ~57% of cases; Aave and EOS also tended to cheer up under a young Moon. Sceptics will say: “So what, 50/50 plus a margin of error.” But, for instance, Polkadot clearly hews to the lunar cycle: around new moons it printed “green” roughly 70% of the time. Coincidence? I do not think so…

The trader’s lunar table

Disclaimer

The lunar table is not a tool of economic analysis and must not be used for investment decisions.

To turn observations into practice, I compiled a small trader’s “lunar cheat sheet”. Below are the eight phases of the Moon, a trading hint, and coins for which such tactics historically skewed positive. Percentages reflect the approximate share of cases when prices moved in the predicted direction for a given phase.

Data: Lina Valitova.

The trader’s lunar calendar for April and May 2025

Disclaimer

The lunar calendar is not a tool of economic analysis and must not be used for investment decisions.

To conclude, I drafted a lunar trading calendar for April–May 2025. As they say: cut along the dotted line and stick it on the fridge.

April 2025

April 4 — First quarter: a bullish trend gathers strength. Accumulate promising coins (Polkadot, Solana, Ethereum) while the Moon is waxing.

April 12 — Full Moon: the cycle’s peak — time for caution. Trim overheated positions (especially jokey alts like DOGE). Bitcoin may pause too — a cold wallet would not hurt.

April 20 — Last quarter: a downturn. For most cryptoassets it makes sense to keep minimal exposure or hedge.

April 27 — New Moon: a new cycle — buy the “bottom”. A good moment to increase allocations to fundamentally strong assets (BTC, ETH, BNB and others).

May 2025

May 4 — First quarter: the market revives after April’s correction. Growth is likely — consider opening longs on top alts (ETH, DOT, LTC).

May 12 — Full Moon: sharp downward moves are possible. Selling part of the portfolio (especially speculative tokens) will spare you lunar tides and ebbs.

May 20 — Last quarter: a bearish mood. Add at most some stablecoins; dial back active trading.

May 26 — New Moon: the start of a new turn — time to buy the dip. Look at Binance Coin, Cardano, Solana — statistically they find it a touch easier to rise under a waxing Moon.

I set aside the crystal ball, snuffed out the candles and, just in case, made a wish — bitcoin at $1m. That’s all. In case Satoshi was somewhere nearby, I saluted with two fingers to the temple. Then I exhaled, finished my cold calendula tea and opened the market analytics.

As much as one might wish to live in a world where a retrograde Mercury explains a dump and a waxing crescent guarantees a pump, reality is a shade more complicated. Yes, lunar phases revealed intriguing regularities. Yes, some coins are surprisingly sensitive to celestial cycles. But let’s be honest: the Moon is the market’s poetry, not its driving force.

And you certainly should not entrust your portfolio’s fate to those who do not hold their own hardware wallet and do not know what a stop‑loss is. Spirits are subtle and all‑knowing, but they are not the ones who rage‑tweet into a bear market. The Moon is a grand thing, but it has still never passed KYC.

So yes — the stars can be an interesting tool.
