These shortcomings prevented the exchange from adequately analyzing transactions for money laundering risks, including threats from mixers, privacy coins, and stablecoins.<\/p>\n<p>FIAU representatives also noted that OKX engaged with clients outside the EU, despite claims of focusing on Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2025, the exchange admitted to violating US anti-money laundering laws and agreed to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/okx-to-pay-over-504-million-in-u-s-justice-department-settlement\">pay over $504 million<\/a> in fines and restitution.<\/p>\n<p>On March 11, Bloomberg journalists reported that European regulators are <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bloomberg-eu-regulators-investigate-okx-over-bybit-hackers-activities\">investigating<\/a> the connection of OKX services to the laundering of <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bybit-exchange-suffers-1-46-billion-loss-in-hack\">assets stolen from Bybit<\/a>.
