{"id":22894,"date":"2025-04-10T10:10:18","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T07:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sec-approves-options-on-spot-ethereum-etfs\/"},"modified":"2025-04-10T10:10:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T07:10:18","slug":"sec-approves-options-on-spot-ethereum-etfs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sec-approves-options-on-spot-ethereum-etfs\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC Approves Options on Spot Ethereum ETFs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has authorized the listing and trading of options on spot ETFs based on the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/rules-regulations\/self-regulatory-organization-rulemaking\/sr-ise-2024-35\">BlackRock<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/34-102799.pdf\">Bitwise, and Grayscale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In September, the regulator <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-grants-approval-for-bitcoin-etf-options-from-blackrock\">made<\/a> a similar decision regarding derivatives based on BTC-ETF. Less than two months later, open interest in IBIT derivatives <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/open-interest-in-options-on-blackrocks-ibit-nears-half-of-deribits\">reached<\/a> half the level on Deribit.<\/p>\n<p>Trading of exchange-traded funds based on Ethereum <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-spot-etfs-debut-with-1-billion-trading-volume\">commenced in late July<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the <span data-descr=\"assets under management\" class=\"old_tooltip\">AUM<\/span> in these instruments <a href=\"https:\/\/sosovalue.com\/ru\/assets\/etf\/us-eth-spot\">amounted to $2.34 billion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The leaders were ETHE from Grayscale ($1.97 billion) and ETHA from BlackRock ($1.93 billion).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-1504.webp\" alt=\"1-1504\" class=\"wp-image-256265\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Data: SoSoValue.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In August 2024, the New York Stock Exchange approached the SEC with a <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/nyse-plans-to-launch-options-on-ethereum-etfs\">proposal<\/a> to amend rules that would allow it to list options based on spot Ethereum ETFs from Bitwise and Grayscale.<\/p>\n<p>In November, the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-postpones-decision-on-spot-ethereum-etf-options-again\">postponed<\/a> consideration of the application.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2025, the <span data-descr=\"Chicago Board Options Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CBOE<\/span> on behalf of ARK Invest and 21Shares <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/cboe-proposes-rule-change-for-ark-21shares-btc-etf-and-eth-etf\">submitted a proposal<\/a> to change the structure of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs to allow for the redemption of assets in kind.<\/p>\n<p>In February, the SEC <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-to-review-grayscales-ethereum-staking-proposal\">accepted<\/a> for review an application from <span data-descr=\"New York Stock Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">NYSE<\/span> Arca to include Ethereum staking in the ETF from Grayscale. In the same month, the Chicago Board Options Exchange submitted a similar application to the agency for a product from 21Shares.<\/p>\n<p>In January, ConsenSys founder Joe Lubin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/joe-lubin-anticipates-imminent-approval-for-eth-etf-staking\">noted<\/a> that issuers of spot Ethereum ETFs in the U.S. are anticipating &#8220;imminent&#8221; approval of staking by the Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has authorized the listing and trading of options on spot ETFs based on the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization from BlackRock, Bitwise, and Grayscale.
