(@haydenzadams) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/haydenzadams\/status\/1913642245393146198?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The debate was sparked by a post from the X-account of Unichain, an L2 project by Uniswap developers, stating &#8220;Unichain \u2014 for DeFi.&#8221; Hoffman countered, pointing to Ethereum&#8217;s L1.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;If the plan is to build DeFi on L1 and vertical scaling, Solana has a better roadmap, team, and approach. Ethereum has been working on an L2-centric, horizontal scaling roadmap for over five years. Why abandon this at the final stretch?&#8221; Adams responded to the Bankless co-founder.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He noted his support for L1 scaling improvements as part of the rollup-centric roadmap but identified &#8220;confusion&#8221; in priorities as an issue:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;People need to set a course and try to mitigate associated risks, rather than attempting to change narratives and strategy every month.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Adams, trying to follow all approaches simultaneously is &#8220;the only thing worse than choosing nothing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hoffman urged for a combined effort on both layers within the Ethereum ecosystem.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;It shouldn&#8217;t be a &#8216;rollup-centric roadmap&#8217;; it should be a &#8216;rollup-centric roadmap around a very strong L1,'&#8221; the Bankless co-founder replied.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He argued against designating any L2 network as the &#8220;home for DeFi,&#8221; as it &#8220;comes at the expense of DeFi on L1.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In January, Ethereum&#8217;s founder Vitalik Buterin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-confirms-ethereums-focus-on-l2-scaling-solutions\">stated<\/a> that the ecosystem would continue to scale primarily through L2 solutions.<\/p>\n<p>At that time, he noted that the main obstacles were insufficient space for <span data-descr=\"large binary data objects\" class=\"old_tooltip\">BLOB<\/span> objects and the mutual incompatibility of various second-layer networks.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Ethereum <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-unveils-streamlined-development-plan-focused-on-scalability\">introduced<\/a> a &#8220;simplified roadmap&#8221; for the coming year: to scale BLOB objects and L1, and to enhance user experience through greater interoperability between second-layer networks and work on the application layer.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">simplified roadmap<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 scale blobs <br \/>\u2014 scale the L1<br \/>\u2014 improve UX (L2 interop + app layer focus)<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 joshrudolf.eth (@rudolf6_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rudolf6_\/status\/1911505490644975662?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 13, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Many commentators expressed support for scaling the main network as outlined in the Glamsterdam update.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the Ethereum ecosystem <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-retakes-dex-leadership-displacing-solana\">regained its lead<\/a> in total trading volume on decentralized exchanges, surpassing Solana.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ethereum&#8217;s blockchain lags behind Solana in terms of building DeFi, prompting developers to focus on second-layer (L2) solutions.
