Futures on major US stock indices continued to fall.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe breakout of bitcoin above $87,000 was driven by rising global liquidity associated with an expanding money supply and the resumption of institutional interest, underscored by signals from [Strategy] about further increasing its holdings and a shrinking available supply,\u201d Kronos Research analyst Dominic John told The Block.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost, as of April 21 open interest (OI) in bitcoin perpetuals <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/analyst-comments-on-bitcoins-rise-amid-derivatives-market-revival\">soared<\/a> by 17.4%.<\/p>\n<p>Comparable jumps of 16% and 15% were seen during the strong bull phase in November\u2013December 2024. At that time, derivatives activity reinforced the positive trend in spot, the specialist noted.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Glassnode analysts observed that over the past day OI in bitcoin futures rose by $2.4bn to $38.6bn, the highest since March. Spot volumes in the first cryptocurrency tripled from $2.9bn to $8bn.<\/p>\n<p>On April 22 the price <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-tops-90000-for-the-first-time-since-early-march\">crossed<\/a> $90,000 for the first time since early March. Roughly half of the liquidations fell on bitcoin ($314.9m).<\/p>\n<p>Amid Trump\u2019s shift in tone, aggregate open positions rose 10% to $17.83bn.<\/p>\n<p>The pace was the fastest since March 2, when Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-surges-to-95000-following-trumps-remarks-on-altcoin-inclusion-in-crypto-reserve\">mentioned<\/a> XRP, ADA and SOL as potential candidates for inclusion in a crypto reserve alongside bitcoin and Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p>On April 24 the price pulled back to $92,000, but by day\u2019s end had returned to $94,000.<\/p>\n<p>CryptoQuant contributor oinonen_t noted that bitcoin\u2019s correlation with the Nasdaq and S&amp;P 500 <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoins-divergence-from-nasdaq-and-sp-500-observed-by-researcher\">declined markedly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThe correlation with the S&amp;P 500, which reached 0.88 at the end of 2024, has fallen to 0.77. A similar trend is observed with the Nasdaq Composite \u2014 from 0.91 in January the metric has dropped to 0.83,\u201d the expert stated.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The analyst also flagged a rising correlation between bitcoin and gold \u2014 since the start of the month the coefficient has increased from -0.62 to -0.31. The two assets \u201cshare the attribute of scarcity, though the former is a more limited resource\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>On April 25 the chart printed a weekly high above $95,400. Over the following days the price drifted lower, save for a local peak around $95,000 on the night of April 27.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing bitcoin trades at $94,000, up 10.5% on the week.<\/p>\n<p>Ethereum opened the week at $1600. In a day the price rose 11.7% \u2014 from $1568 to $1751. Many in the crypto industry deemed him a good fit, given his experience in the field.<\/p>\n<p>On April 10 the Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/paul-atkins-confirmed-as-sec-chairman-by-senate\">voted<\/a> to confirm Atkins. Fifty-two senators backed him, 44 voted against and four did not take part.<\/p>\n<p>The new chair named the creation of a clear and comprehensible regulatory framework for digital assets as his priority. He stressed a focus on greater market transparency and stronger investor protection.<\/p>\n<p>The appointment marks a shift in the SEC\u2019s course. His approach differs from that of former chair <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/gary-genslers-departure-a-retrospective-on-the-sec-chairs-tenure\">Gary Gensler<\/a>, who often relied on \u201cregulation by enforcement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Before confirmation, the incoming chair served on the board of the non-profit The Digital Chamber. The group focuses on promoting and lobbying for blockchain, bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in US policy circles.<\/p>\n<p>From 2002 to 2008 Atkins was an SEC commissioner, where, according to Trump, he \u201cadvocated forcefully for transparency and investor protection\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The US president will host a dinner for TRUMP whales<\/h2>\n<p>US President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/trump-hosts-gala-dinner-for-top-trump-meme-coin-holders\">announced<\/a> a gala dinner for the 220 largest holders of the memecoin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-to-know-about-donald-trumps-memecoin-surge-supply-and-industry-impact\">TRUMP<\/a>. The event will take place on May 22 at his private golf club in Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Participants can increase their chances of an invitation by holding coins from April 23 to May 12. The more TRUMP on the account, the higher the odds of making the dinner. A leaderboard has been posted on the project\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 220 invitees, the 15 largest holders will be able to attend an \u201cexclusive reception\u201d before dinner with Trump and receive a \u201cVIP tour of the White House\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic US Senator from Georgia Jon Ossoff <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/trumps-dinner-for-trump-token-holders-sparks-impeachment-calls\">called<\/a> the event \u201cbeyond any prior standards for impeachment\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWhen the sitting president of the United States sells access for what is in effect payments directly to him, there is no doubt that this rises to the level of an impeachable offense,\u201d the senator said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ossoff said he fully supports the idea of impeachment, but considers it impossible given the current composition of the House of Representatives, which is responsible for such decisions.<\/p>\n<p>On the announcement, TRUMP\u2019s price rose 54% within hours, approaching $14.5.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to talk about with friends?<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Charles Hoskinson <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/charles-hoskinson-foresees-ethereums-demise-in-10-15-years\">predicted<\/a> Ethereum\u2019s demise within 10\u201315 years.<\/li>\n<li>An NFT project <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/nft-project-plans-to-acquire-nuclear-bunker-for-dao\">planned<\/a> the purchase of a nuclear bunker for a DAO.<\/li>\n<li>Pavel Durov <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/durov-denies-sharing-telegram-users-private-messages-with-authorities\">denied<\/a> handing over personal chats on Telegram to authorities.<\/li>\n<li>Peter Schiff <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/peter-schiff-faces-backlash-for-comparing-gold-to-money\">drew<\/a> a wave of criticism for comparing gold with money.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zora\u2019s airdrop draws fire from the community<\/h2>\n<p>On April 20 the social NFT platform for content monetisation Zora announced the issuance of 10bn ZORA tokens on the Base L2 network. Launch was slated for April 23.<\/p>\n<p>On the day, users began receiving ZORA without prior warning. Community members <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/zora-faces-backlash-over-confusing-token-airdrop\">criticised<\/a> the platform for the lack of official communications.<\/p>\n<p>Trading began without an announcement, and access to ZORA was available only to advanced users directly from the smart contract address on Base. Newcomers struggled \u2014 the process proved more complicated than typical airdrops.<\/p>\n<p>Exchanges Binance, Bitget and Bybit received ZORA \u201cin the millions of dollars\u201d to ensure efficient trading. Decentralised exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/the-price-of-popularity-and-a-lesson-for-all-hyperliquid\">Hyperliquid<\/a> launched leveraged options.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/intel.arkm.com\/explorer\/token\/zora\">Arkham Intelligence<\/a>, turnover on and off the platform totalled around $6m.<\/p>\n<p>The ability to claim tokens before the official TGE may have created an unfair advantage for early users, sparking criticism.<\/p>\n<p>One X user <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/aadvark89\/status\/1915057007696265450\">called<\/a> the launch \u201ca masterclass in deception\u201d due to Zora\u2019s silence. He also pointed to promotion of the platform by Base creator Jesse Pollak.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/bitokay\/1088\">BitOK<\/a>, the Zora team sent almost the entire drop to its own wallets.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these addresses were linked to the Bybit and KuCoin exchanges, raising suspicions of corruption in the allocation. Wallets with more than 100m ZORA were also observed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cThey definitely appropriated part of the coins and definitely sold before the announcement,\u201d \u2014 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/zora-team-accused-of-token-sales-prior-to-airdrop\"><em>said<\/em><\/a><em> to ForkLog BitOK founder Dmitry Machikhin.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He stressed that Zora representatives initially owned 65% of the total token allocation. According to him, his team will conduct an independent investigation and gather evidence supporting their culpability.<\/p>\n<p>According to drop-hunter Anton ProfiT, the Zora team promised automatic distribution before listing, but within the first 2.5 hours began selling tokens on an exchange \u201cat a good price\u201d. Only after that did representatives \u201cquietly open a portal to claim tokens\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Zora promoted a referral programme but banned the most active users for it, Anton ProfiT added.<\/p>\n<p>He said his wallet showed an allocation of 34m ZORA. After a \u201c30-fold cut\u201d, the drop-hunter was due more than 1m tokens. However, he was blocked \u201cfor excessive activity\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cZora is not <\/em><em>Web3<\/em><em>. It is a centralized scam disguised as decentralization\u201d \u2014 concluded Anton ProfiT.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>At the time of writing ZORA trades at $0.0169 \u2014 57% below its $0.04 peak.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Also on ForkLog:<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>QCP experts <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/qcp-experts-highlight-bitcoins-growing-role-as-a-safe-haven-asset\">said<\/a> bitcoin\u2019s role as a safe-haven asset is strengthening.<\/li>\n<li>Ethereum Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-foundation-shifts-focus-to-l1-scaling-and-user-experience-enhancement\">will focus<\/a> on L1 scaling and improving UX.<\/li>\n<li>WazirX <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/wazirx-to-resume-operations-following-235-million-hack\">will resume operations<\/a> after a $235m hack.<\/li>\n<li>The Fed <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/federal-reserve-revokes-anti-cryptocurrency-guidelines-for-banks\">scrapped<\/a> anti-crypto guidance for banks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ethereum to test a higher gas limit<\/h2>\n<p>Ethereum developers <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-developers-to-test-quadrupling-gas-limit\">are considering<\/a> more than a fourfold increase in the network\u2019s gas limit as a key feature of the planned Fusaka hard fork.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal presented during an <span data-descr=\"All Core Developers Execution \u2014 all key execution-layer developers\" class=\"old_tooltip\">ACDE<\/span> call, <span data-descr=\"Ethereum Improvement Proposal \u2014 a proposal to improve Ethereum\" class=\"old_tooltip\">EIP<\/span>-9678, provides for testing the parameter with an upper bound of 150m units. In February, Ethereum validators <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-validators-endorse-gas-limit-increase\">backed raising<\/a> the gas limit from 30m. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/ycharts.com\/indicators\/ethereum_average_gas_limit\">Ycharts<\/a>, the average has risen by ~20% to 35.95m.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cTo align client default settings and keep this a priority, we drafted an <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ethereum\/EIPs\/pull\/9678\"><em>EIP<\/em><\/a><em>. It\u2019s a bit unorthodox, but not unprecedented (see EIP-7840). We plan to merge it early next week ahead of the upcoming ACDE,\u201d core developer Tim Beiko commented.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The proposal will require changes to other EIPs for Fusaka, but the scope of the hard fork will not change, he noted.<\/p>\n<p>On the need to raise the gas limit, developers led by Sofia Gold noted strong interest in L1 execution-layer scaling. But without introducing new features, work in this direction would require client teams to spend time finding and fixing bugs. Hence it made sense to formalise it as an EIP and include it in the hard fork, they added.<\/p>\n<p>On May 7 an upgrade to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-developers-postpone-pectra-update-to-may-7\">is scheduled<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/pectra-steering-ethereum-toward-scale-and-mass-adoption\">Pectra<\/a>.
