The deal is valued at $2.9 billion, sources confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/finance\/currencies\/coinbase-strikes-2-9-billion-deal-for-major-crypto-options-platform-a87ca4b3\">WSJ<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This acquisition will strengthen the position of the largest American crypto company in the derivatives market, where it has so far lagged behind Binance and OKX.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/data\/crypto-markets\/options\/aggregated-open-interest-of-bitcoin-options\/embed\" title=\"Aggregated Open Interest of Bitcoin Options\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Deribit accounts for over 85% of the Bitcoin options segment. Founded in 2016, the platform also offers futures and spot trading.<\/p>\n<p>For Coinbase, this purchase will be the largest in its history.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;The deal will make us a leader in this area,&#8221; stated Greg Tusar, Vice President of the trading platform.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to him, the integration of Deribit will accelerate the company&#8217;s expansion beyond the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The payment structure includes $700 million in cash and 11 million Coinbase shares. The deal is expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approval.<\/p>\n<p>Back in March, the exchange Kraken <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/kraken-agrees-to-acquire-ninjatrader-for-1-5-billion\">reached an agreement<\/a> to acquire the futures trading platform NinjaTrader for $1.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Ripple <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ripple-acquires-prime-broker-hidden-road-for-1-25-billion\">announced<\/a> the acquisition of the institutional lending and brokerage platform Hidden Road for $1.25 billion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has agreed to acquire Deribit, the largest platform for trading Bitcoin options.
