{"id":24232,"date":"2025-05-23T13:56:21","date_gmt":"2025-05-23T10:56:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sec-to-review-tron-based-etf-application\/"},"modified":"2025-05-23T13:56:21","modified_gmt":"2025-05-23T10:56:21","slug":"sec-to-review-tron-based-etf-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sec-to-review-tron-based-etf-application\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC to Review TRON-Based ETF Application"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has commenced its review of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/cboebzx\/2025\/34-103108.pdf\">application<\/a> from the <span data-descr=\"Chicago Board Options Exchange\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CBOE<\/span> to register a spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) based on TRON (TRX) with a staking feature from Canary Capital.<\/p>\n<p>Bitgo will serve as the custodian for the product.<\/p>\n<p>The agency has invited interested parties to comment on the proposed rule change.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Canary submitted applications to launch spot exchange-traded funds based on Sui, Hedera, and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/dtcc-lists-canary-capitals-spot-litecoin-etf\">Litecoin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On May 22, the Commission postponed the review deadlines for proposals to list an XRP-ETF from <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitwise-files-for-spot-xrp-etf-registration\">Bitwise<\/a>, XRP-ETF and LTC-ETF from <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/nasdaq-files-for-xrp-and-litecoin-etfs-from-coinshares\">Coinshares<\/a>, as well as a BTC-ETF from Fidelity with in-kind redemption.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As expected, more delays on crypto ETFs dropped today. Delay on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Fidelity?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Fidelity<\/a>&#8216;s In-kind Bitcoin filing.<\/p>\n<p>On the more positive side: SEC acknowledged <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CanaryFunds?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CanaryFunds<\/a>&#8216;s staked TRX filing <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bqXHT5MAnS\">https:\/\/t.co\/bqXHT5MAnS<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LzrxfFZK2J\">pic.twitter.com\/LzrxfFZK2J<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 James Seyffart (@JSeyff) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JSeyff\/status\/1925665892710445284?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 22, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The SEC is currently reviewing <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/paul-atkins-takes-helm-at-sec\">over 70 applications<\/a> for the launch of exchange-traded funds based on various cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart anticipates an expansion in the number of approved instruments in the fourth quarter, when final decision deadlines arrive.<\/p>\n<p>Should the regulator be prepared to deviate from this practice, issuers might receive approval by late June or early July, he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cA verdict ahead of schedule would be outside the norm. Regardless of how \u2018crypto-friendly\u2019 the SEC is,\u201d<\/em> explained Seyffart.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier, the expert noted that the LTC-ETF has the best chances for approval.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Seyffart and his colleague Eric Balchunas <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/experts-see-high-chances-for-approval-of-etfs-based-on-ltc-sol-xrp-and-doge\">estimated the likelihood<\/a> of Litecoin-ETF registration at 90%, and products based on Dogecoin at 75%. They considered the chances for Solana (70%) and XRP (65%) to be lower.<\/p>\n<p>On May 2, investment firm VanEck <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/cryptocurrency-mentions-in-sec-filings-reach-record-high\">submitted<\/a> a proposal for the listing and trading of an exchange-traded fund based on BNB with a staking option.<\/p>\n<p>In January, ConsenSys founder Joe Lubin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/joe-lubin-anticipates-imminent-approval-for-eth-etf-staking\">noted<\/a> that issuers of spot ETH-ETFs in the U.S. are hoping for \u201csoon\u201d approval of staking by the Commission.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has commenced its review of an application from the CBOE to register a spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) based on TRON (TRX) with a staking feature from Canary Capital.
