{"id":24295,"date":"2025-05-27T11:32:35","date_gmt":"2025-05-27T08:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/germany-trials-autonomous-public-transport\/"},"modified":"2025-05-27T11:32:35","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T08:32:35","slug":"germany-trials-autonomous-public-transport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/germany-trials-autonomous-public-transport\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany Trials Autonomous Public Transport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Germany has commenced trials of autonomous vehicles as a form of public transport.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AFuDIe7muEM?si=rGZzyX-1Eh6K-656\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On May 26, the KIRA project launched public trials in certain areas of the Rhine-Main region, encompassing Frankfurt, Mainz, and Wiesbaden.<\/p>\n<p>Knut Ringat, managing director of the RVN transport association, anticipates that by 2030, KIRA will serve as an alternative to other forms of public transport, particularly in rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that bus services in villages are &#8220;already inadequate,&#8221; and the situation is expected to worsen in the coming years due to a growing shortage of carriers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Today, more than 40% of our drivers are over 55 years old, which means that in the next ten years we will lose half. We need an alternative,&#8221; Ringat remarked.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>KIRA operates similarly to other ride-sharing apps\u2014users specify pick-up and drop-off locations and wait for the vehicle. The difference is that the car drives itself.<\/p>\n<p>The project has been launched in Langen, but if all goes according to plan, it will expand to include residents of nearby Darmstadt by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2024, researchers from the University of Tokyo <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tokyo-researchers-teach-humanoid-robot-to-drive\">taught<\/a> a humanoid robot named Musashi to drive a small electric car.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Germany has commenced trials of autonomous vehicles as a form of public transport.
