Unfortunately, this means saying goodbye to brilliant\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sreeram Kannan (@sreeramkannan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sreeramkannan\/status\/1942685528425652441?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 8, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWhile these changes are difficult, they help us as a company to focus and build teams that can sustainably move towards a single ambitious goal: creating the world&#8217;s first verifiable cloud platform [EigenCloud],\u201d wrote Kannan.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He thanked the departing specialists for their contributions to laying the foundation of the project. They were provided with a full severance package, accelerated vesting, continued medical insurance, and personal assistance in finding new employment.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2023, Eigen Labs raised $50 million in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/eigenlayer\/status\/1640754971435229184\">Series A<\/a> round from Electric Capital, Polychain Capital, Hack VC, Finality Capital Partners, and Coinbase Ventures. In the next round, venture firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-02-22\/andreessen-invests-100-million-in-crypto-startup-eigenlayer\">invested<\/a> $100 million.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2025, Eigen Labs additionally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/digital-assets\/2025\/06\/17\/eigen-labs-raises-70-million-from-a16z-for-ethereum-restaking\/\">received<\/a> $70 million from a16z through the sale of EIGEN tokens and launched the EigenCloud platform. The total investment amount reached $220 million, with $170 million coming from a16z.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt is extremely rare to find a developer with such a level of vision and a plan capable of changing everything,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/a16zcrypto.com\/posts\/article\/investing-in-eigenlayer\/\">noted<\/a> a16z General Partner Ali Yahya in an investment report.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ecosystem for Developing Traditional Applications with Web3 Technologies<\/h2>\n<p>EigenCloud includes key services:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EigenDA \u2014 a data storage with a throughput of over 10 MB\/s. It can be considered a faster alternative to <span data-descr=\"large binary objects\" class=\"old_tooltip\">BLOB<\/span> space in Ethereum, designed for rollups and large data tasks;<\/li>\n<li>EigenVerify \u2014 a programmable dispute resolution system. Developers can set conditions for detecting fraud or errors, and penalties (slashing) are applied in case of violations;<\/li>\n<li>EigenCompute \u2014 verifiable off-chain computations as a service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Access to EigenCloud is currently provided to a closed circle of developers. A full-scale launch is planned for the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Eigen Layer platform offers ETH restaking to secure third-party networks. At the time of writing, there are over 200 active validation services <a href=\"https:\/\/app.eigenlayer.xyz\/avs\">in development<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/defillama.com\/protocol\/eigenlayer#information\">DeFi Llama<\/a>, the total value locked in Eigen Layer is about $12.2 billion.
