Previously, the limit was 48 million CUs. It was later gradually increased to 50 million CUs to test the system&#8217;s stability. The test was successful, Mumtaz noted.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, developers plan to at least double the current block capacity in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Mumtaz emphasized that the upgrade will lead to lower fees with the same demand, provide more opportunities for developers, and improve the user experience.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Future Plans<\/h2>\n<p>Solana developers have proposed increasing the block compute unit limit from 60 million to 100 million to boost the network&#8217;s throughput by 66%. The corresponding <span data-descr=\"Solana Improvement Document \u2014 document for improving Solana\" class=\"old_tooltip\">SIMD<\/span>-0286 <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solana-foundation\/solana-improvement-documents\/blob\/main\/proposals\/0286-raise-block-limits-to-100M.md\">was published<\/a> on GitHub.<\/p>\n<p>Increasing the limit will allow complex applications like order book-based DEXs and MEV auctions to operate without budget overflow errors. However, it will also increase the load on validators.<\/p>\n<p>The demand for expanding limits has grown due to the activity of restaking protocols, NFT mints, and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tokens-for-noise-and-a-web3-alternative-to-google-maps-the-most-interesting-depin-projects\">DePIN<\/a> projects, which are taking up more space in blocks.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal is currently under discussion and testing. It will take effect with one of the future software updates and will be activated automatically after validator approval.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Market Reaction<\/h2>\n<p>Following the news, the price of SOL exceeded $200. At the time of writing, the &#8220;people&#8217;s cryptocurrency&#8221; was trading at $182.25, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/solana\">CoinGecko<\/a>. DeFi Development Corp <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2025\/07\/21\/3118660\/0\/en\/DeFi-Dev-Corp-Grows-SOL-Treasury-to-999-999-Raises-19-Million-from-Equity-Line-of-Credit.html\">announced<\/a> it is close to owning 1 million SOL. Mining firm Bit Mining <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/bit-mining-limited-expands-into-the-solana-ecosystem-302502235.html\">reported<\/a> plans to raise up to $300 million to form a SOL treasury.<\/p>\n<p>On-chain analyst Ali Martinez pointed to a breakout of the classic &#8220;cup and handle&#8221; pattern.
