Coinbase paid $700 million and transferred 11 million Class A shares.<\/p>\n<p>The acquisition will enable the exchange to consolidate spot trading, futures, perpetual contracts, and options on a single platform. The company aims to create a comprehensive platform for the global crypto derivatives market.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Deribit ranks first in the options market. In July 2025, the trading volume on the platform exceeded $185 billion, while the current <span data-descr=\"open interest\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OI<\/span> is approximately $59 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The deal occurred amid Deribit&#8217;s record performance and growing interest in crypto options from institutional investors. Coinbase expects the acquisition to strengthen its position in the global market and increase liquidity, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The founders of Deribit, brothers John and Marius Jansen, will <a href=\"https:\/\/insights.deribit.com\/exchange-updates\/deribit-to-join-coinbase-a-new-chapter-in-global-crypto-derivatives-2025\/\">leave<\/a> the company following its acquisition.<\/p>\n<p>In June, the volume of open positions on Bitcoin options at derivative exchanges <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/coinbase\/status\/1955980234534105133?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">exceeded $45 billion<\/a>.
