{"id":26970,"date":"2020-08-07T07:00:29","date_gmt":"2020-08-07T04:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=26970"},"modified":"2025-08-26T17:54:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T14:54:12","slug":"blockchain-chinese-style-how-china-is-building-a-centralised-platform-for-dlt-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/blockchain-chinese-style-how-china-is-building-a-centralised-platform-for-dlt-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Blockchain, Chinese-Style: How China Is Building a Centralised Platform for DLT Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">In October 2019, China&#8217;s President Xi Jinping <\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">stated<\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\"> the need for China to become a leader in blockchain technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">The key \u201clocomotives\u201d on the path to this goal appear to be <\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">the digital yuan<\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\"> and the Blockchain-based Service Network \u2014 BSN \u2014 infrastructure platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">The main aim of the BSN is to become \u201cthe Internet of Blockchains,\u201d according to the project\u2019s <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/471468080\/Introductory-White-Paper\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noopener noreferrer\\\"><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">white paper<\/span><\/a><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">. ForkLog examined what that actually means, how the platform is structured, and why it matters to the Chinese government.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\\\"wp-block-text-wrappers-keypoints article_keypoints\\\">\n<ul class=\\\"wp-block-list\\\">\n<li>China launched the BSN infrastructure platform designed to ease and reduce the costs of launching blockchain applications.<\/li>\n<li>The development of the BSN split into two tracks \u2014 Chinese and international \u2014 due to the integration of public blockchains.<\/li>\n<li>In August, BSN will begin supporting networks such as Ethereum, EOS, Tezos, NEO, Nervos and IRISnet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">BSN is positioned as a scalable infrastructure, whose key task is to reduce costs and simplify the launch of blockchain applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">It is expected to accelerate the adoption of decentralized technologies, and to stimulate the development of \u201csmart cities\u201d and the digital economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">It is important to note that BSN is merely a platform for integrating various solutions and tools for developers and is not a blockchain in itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">\u201cWe are not going to build BSNChain and will never issue a cryptocurrency. One of the first BSN alliance members was also the Chinese unit of the cryptocurrency exchange Huobi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">At the first BSN conference, seven main characteristics of the new infrastructure were announced \u2014 openness, usefulness, scalability, open source, multi-portal, low cost and autonomy.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">\u201cCreated to unite a fragmented market, BSN is a cross-cloud, cross-portal and cross-platform public network that enables developers to easily and affordably design, deploy, and support applications and nodes of public and exclusive blockchains,\u201d said Huobi founder Leon Li.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">BSN is likened to Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure for the blockchain world. Hence the \u201cInternet of Blockchains\u201d they seek to build with the new infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">\u201cOur mission is to put everything related to blockchain on the BSN platform,\u201d said Bloomberg\u2019s head of Red Date Technology He Yifan.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">Testing of the platform began in autumn 2019. The outbreak of the coronavirus in China did not derail BSN\u2019s plans \u2014 the official launch, as expected, took place in April 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight: 400;\\\">At launch, the BSN network comprised 128 so-called Public City Nodes (PCNs).
