ESET researchers have detected a spike in malicious activity spreading via torrent files of the Disney film Mulan.<\/p>\n

Among the results of a routine search for ‘Mulan.2020’ there are around 18,000 files showing signs of malicious behavior. Most likely, there are many more in reality.<\/p>\n

Among the detected threats is the HoudRat cryptominer. It can remain undetected for a long time and may lead to device failure, experts warn.<\/p>\n

Also, ESET researchers found LNK files that redirect users to third-party advertising sites or open links infected by other malware.<\/p>\n

To protect against the malware, cybersecurity experts recommend users install a comprehensive antivirus solution.<\/p>\n

Earlier in April, ESET researchers uncovered a previously unknown botnet for covert Monero mining, which has infected no fewer than 35,000 devices since May 2019.<\/p>\n
