{"id":32185,"date":"2020-11-23T09:41:44","date_gmt":"2020-11-23T07:41:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=32185"},"modified":"2025-08-28T07:26:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T04:26:42","slug":"ciphertrace-files-two-patents-for-monero-transaction-tracing-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/ciphertrace-files-two-patents-for-monero-transaction-tracing-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"CipherTrace files two patents for Monero transaction-tracing technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CipherTrace, the analytics company, has filed two patents for a technology designed to trace transactions on the Monero network, the anonymous cryptocurrency.<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"twitter-tweet\\\">\n<p dir=\\\"ltr\\\" lang=\\\"en\\\">CipherTrace Files Two Monero Cryptocurrency Tracing Patents <a href=\\\"https:\/\/t.co\/URmue0VT2n\\\">https:\/\/t.co\/URmue0VT2n<\/a> CipherTrace has filed their second Monero tracing patent application\u2014 Techniques and Probabilistic Methods for Tracing Monero <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Monero?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">#Monero<\/a> <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/XMR?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">#XMR<\/a> <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/privacycoin?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">#privacycoin<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CipherTrace (@ciphertrace) <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ciphertrace\/status\/1329940188148076544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">November 21, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\\\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\\\" charset=\\\"utf-8\\\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The first patent was titled \u201cTechniques and Probabilistic Methods for Tracing Monero\u201d; the second, \u201cSystems and Methods for Analysing Monero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They include tools to study transaction flows in the Monero network, which will assist in financial-crime investigations, statistical and probabilistic methods for categorising transactions and grouping likely wallet owners, as well as visualisation tools and methods to track coins stolen or used for criminal purposes.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cOur aim is to enable the identification of users involved in criminal activity, thereby increasing the security and resilience of private coins like Monero in the future,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The company added that it has been developing such tools since early 2019 as part of a project run by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n<p>In August this year, CipherTrace <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ciphertrace-unveils-monero-transaction-tracing-tool\">unveiled<\/a> the Monero transaction-tracing tool.<\/p>\n<p>In October, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/irs-to-task-chainalysis-with-tracking-monero-transactions\">identified<\/a> the winners of a competition to develop tools for tracing XMR transactions that circumvent anonymity technologies.
