This drew the attention of researcher Leonidas Hadjiloizou.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Jed\u2019s Tacostand had paused XRP sales ever since the SEC lawsuit was announced. After 25 days of no sales, 28.6 million XRP was sold today. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XTMgmvDFZF\">pic.twitter.com\/XTMgmvDFZF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Leonidas Hadjiloizou (@LeoHadjiloizou) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeoHadjiloizou\/status\/1351272443701321729?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 18, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to him, McCaleb paused selling tokens after December 23, 2020, when the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-files-suit-against-ripple\">accused Ripple<\/a> of selling $1.3 billion in unregistered securities.<\/p>\n<p>On January 18, the former Ripple CTO sold the tokens. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/ru\/\u041a\u0440\u0438\u043f\u0442\u043e\u0432\u0430\u043b\u044e\u0442\u044b\/xrp\/usd#panel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">CoinGecko<\/a>, XRP&#8217;s price at that time was around $0.28. The deal brought McCaleb roughly $8 million.<\/p>\n<p>Hadjiloizou suggested that the Ripple co-founder consulted with lawyers, but the real reason he resumed selling is unknown.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Jed had paused his sales in the past, to allow a charity he had donated XRP to, to sell. This time, however, he paused his sales right after the lawsuit. There is no way to know why he resumed. Under the agreement with the company, McCaleb receives regular token tranches. Earlier, he had ruled out any potential price pressure.<\/p>\n<p>According to Whale Alert, from 2014 to 2019 the co-founder sold 1.05 billion XRP. In 2020 he <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ripple-co-founder-ramps-up-xrp-sales\">liquidated 375 million XRP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/u-s-court-sets-date-for-preliminary-hearings-in-sec-case-against-ripple\">Preliminary hearings<\/a> on the SEC&#8217;s case against Ripple were scheduled for February 22, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>On January 5, Tetragon Financial Group filed <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/another-lawsuit-filed-against-ripple\">another lawsuit<\/a> against Ripple.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Brad Garlinghouse called the regulator&#8217;s claims <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/brad-garlinghouse-sec-suit-against-ripple-a-dangerous-precedent-for-the-crypto-industry\">a terrible precedent<\/a> for the crypto industry and organizations tied to digital assets. He said the company <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ripple-ceo-answers-questions-about-sec-lawsuit\">will not abandon efforts<\/a> to resolve disagreements with the agency.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the SEC&#8217;s suit, major platforms pulled support for XRP.
