{"id":35084,"date":"2021-01-20T19:01:43","date_gmt":"2021-01-20T17:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=35084"},"modified":"2025-08-28T23:38:59","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T20:38:59","slug":"bitcoin-node-count-hits-a-record-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/bitcoin-node-count-hits-a-record-high\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin node count hits a record high"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The number of full Bitcoin nodes has reached a record high of 11,727, according to data from <a href=\"https:\/\/bitnodes.io\/nodes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Bitnodes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On 20 January, the statistics tracker <a href=\"https:\/\/coin.dance\/nodes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Coin Dance<\/a> recorded 11,619 nodes in the network, also surpassing last year&#8217;s peak (11,250).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: services do not count nodes with closed ports \u2014 only listening nodes are included in the tally. This is because the former sit behind firewalls or have been configured by users not to listen for connections.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr (Luke-jr) created <a href=\"http:\/\/luke.dashjr.org\/programs\/bitcoin\/files\/charts\/security.html?201817144\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">a script<\/a> that attempts to count all full Bitcoin nodes. According to his data, at the time of writing there were 30,720 updated nodes in the network. This software version accounts for only 5.9% of network nodes (687 nodes).<\/p>\n<p>Version 0.21.0 added support for Tor v3 addresses and descriptor wallets. Also in the code <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/schnorr-signatures-and-taproot-integrated-into-bitcoin-core\">added<\/a> Schnorr signatures, Taproot and Tapscript to enhance privacy and scalability of the network. By October 15, 2021, developers will discontinue support for V2 addresses.
