The owner of Bitcoin.org, Cobra, refused to comply with the demand.<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Letter on behalf of Craig Wright to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CobraBitcoin?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CobraBitcoin<\/a> about Bitcoin copyright and hosting the whitepaper at bitcoindotorg:<\/p>\n<p>Grab your popcorn \ud83c\udf7f<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BSV?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BSV<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CkCn3UwypV\">pic.twitter.com\/CkCn3UwypV<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 cryptorebel_SV u\/1479 (@cryptorebel_SV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cryptorebel_SV\/status\/1352143991735787520?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In a letter prepared by Ontier&#8217;s lawyers, copyright on Craig Wright&#8217;s Bitcoin white paper, the name \u201cBitcoin,\u201d and ownership of the Bitcoin.org domain were asserted.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Cobra called all the lawyer&#8217;s statements \u201cfalse\u201d and \u201cbaseless.\u201d He explained that the refusal to remove the Bitcoin white paper from the site was due to the document\u2019s MIT license, which presumes its free distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Cobra also reminded that Satoshi Nakamoto holds a PGP public key through which he can verify his identity, and noted that Craig Wright has not done so yet.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We\u2019ve published a notice regarding CSW, the Bitcoin whitepaper, and Bitcoin Core\u2019s recent actions.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/M2jP4FS24i\">https:\/\/t.co\/M2jP4FS24i<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 C\u00f8bra (@CobraBitcoin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CobraBitcoin\/status\/1352169871321272320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 21, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue hosting the Bitcoin white paper, and we will not be silenced or intimidated. Other sites hosting the technical document should follow our example and stand up to these false accusations.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>At the same time, Cobra noted that bitcoincore.org has already removed its copy of the document and links to it, which <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/bitcoin-core\/bitcoincore.org\/pull\/740\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">is reflected on GitHub<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBy engaging in self-censorship in this way, the Bitcoin Core developers have confirmed the false statements of Bitcoin\u2019s enemies, jeopardising its integrity,\u201d wrote Cobra.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As noted in May 2019, Craig Wright registered copyright on the Bitcoin white paper and the Bitcoin Core source code.
