According to Schnelli, he will use the funds to continue work on Bitcoin Core, which he has been developing since 2013.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a reasonable salary. However, it&#8217;s far less than what I could earn as a corporate software developer. But I work for the idea of Bitcoin, not for money,\u201d the specialist added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Marathon&#8217;s CEO Merrick Okamoto, the company believes it is important to contribute to the development of the ecosystem of the first cryptocurrency. He added that the absence of specialists like Jonas could affect Bitcoin adoption, and thus the company&#8217;s business.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2020, Bitmain <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitmain-ends-funding-for-bitcoin-core-developers\">ceased funding<\/a> the Bitcoin Core developers, which had continued for three years. Soon they <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/coinbase-awards-first-grants-to-two-bitcoin-developers\">received their first grants<\/a> from the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.<\/p>\n<p>Jonas Schnelli is not only a leading Bitcoin Core developer but also a prominent member of the cypherpunk community.
