The founders previously played an important role in launching <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-eos\">EOS<\/a> and several other blockchain projects.<\/p>\n<p>Funding came in several stages. Shortly before the test launch on December 4, 2020, the developers held a Dutch auction of virtual land plots as <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-nfts\">non\u2011fungible tokens (NFTs)<\/a>, raising about $1m.<\/p>\n<p>In a seed round in February 2021, Dacoco received investment from Korean fund HG Ventures. A private token sale followed in March, with ten venture funds participating, including Animoca Brend. Across the two rounds the team raised more than $2m.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-cards single_card\">\n<h2 class=\"card_label\">TLM issuance and utility<\/h2>\n<p>The native token Trillium (TLM) was issued simultaneously on the Wax, BNB Chain and Ethereum blockchains. The in\u2011game cross\u2011chain bridge <a href=\"https:\/\/teleport.alienworlds.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Teleport<\/a> lets users move TLM between these chains. This requires installing and connecting both Wax Cloud Wallet and MetaMask.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum supply of TLM is 10bn tokens, a little over 3bn of which are already in circulation. Over 1bn TLM was sold to strategic investors in spring 2021, and 150m was distributed via Binance Launchpool.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The remainder is earmarked for daily allocations to planetary DAOs, community and creator support, marketing and other purposes.<\/p>\n<p>TLM can be used in several ways:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>mined by players on \u201cland plots\u201d;<\/li>\n<li>upgrading in\u2011game items, taking part in quests and battles;<\/li>\n<li>voting on planetary DAO initiatives;<\/li>\n<li>staking in missions (BEP\u201120 TLM only).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>TLM trades on major centralised exchanges, including <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-binance\">Binance<\/a>, Gate.io, Kucoin and Kraken, as well as on decentralised platforms (<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-pancakeswap-a-uniswap-style-dex-on-binance-smart-chain\">PancakeSwap<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-cards single_card\">\n<h2 class=\"card_label\">How does gameplay work in Alien Worlds?<\/h2>\n<p>Alien Worlds runs in the browser on both desktop and mobile. Before registering, you need an account in <a href=\"https:\/\/all-access.wax.io\/dashboard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wax Cloud Wallet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike many NFT games using the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-gamefi\">Play2Earn<\/a> model, Alien Worlds does not require an upfront investment.<em> <\/em>Every new player receives a free tool\u2014a shovel with minimal efficiency\u2014and can immediately start mining TLM. Source: ForkLog<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The mining loop consists of clicking \u201cMine\u201d, then \u201cClaim Mine\u201d, approving the transaction in the Wax Cloud Wallet pop\u2011up, and receiving the payout (about 0.002\u20130.01 TLM with the \u201cstandard\u201d shovel). A tool cooldown then follows\u2014about 80 seconds for the free shovel and up to several hours for the most powerful tools\u2014after which the process can be repeated.<\/p>\n<p>Besides TLM there is a small chance to receive NFT Points, which can be exchanged for digital items to use or sell on the marketplace.<\/p>\n<p>Another gameplay component is missions, presented as expeditions to distant planets. In practice these are short staking campaigns lasting one to four weeks, with rewards in TLM and valuable NFTs. Source: ForkLog<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The two most popular marketplaces for buying and selling in\u2011game NFTs on Wax are <a href=\"https:\/\/wax.atomichub.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AtomicHub<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nfthive.io\/collection\/alien.worlds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NFTHive<\/a>. They connect via Wax Cloud Wallet, with settlement in WAXP, the native coin of the Wax blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>All NFT types (except land) have six rarity tiers. They also feature a Shine attribute with five levels: Stone, Gold, Stardust, Antimatter and X\u2011Dimension.<\/p>\n<p>Four NFTs of the same rarity and Shine can be combined into one with the next Shine level. This costs from 100 to 2000 TLM, depending on rarity and Shine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-cards single_card\">\n<h2 class=\"card_label\"><strong>What is digital land for in<\/strong> <strong>Alien Worlds?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Alien Worlds universe currently consists of six planets, each divided into 150\u2013200 plots represented as NFTs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On December 4, 2020, the initial land sale offered 3,000 plots (out of 3,343) at a starting price of 0.7457 ETH (under $350 at the time). Today plots can be bought only on the secondary market, starting from about $1,800.<\/p>\n<p>There are 20 land types (rocky, desert, volcanic, and so on). Owners on some planets can also run miner incentive programmes, such as chances to receive in\u2011game NFTs.<\/p>\n<p>Each planet in the Alien Worlds Federation is governed by a planetary DAO of TLM holders. Source: ForkLog<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Every day, planets receive an allocation of TLM that can be distributed to stakers and landowners or directed to miner incentives to increase a planet\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-cards single_card\">\n<h2 class=\"card_label\">How much can you earn in Alien Worlds?<\/h2>\n<p>Because the game follows a play\u2011to\u2011earn model, most players join Alien Worlds to make money.<\/p>\n<p>Potential income sources include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>mining TLM on land and via missions;<\/li>\n<li>selling NFTs obtained from mining and missions on marketplaces;<\/li>\n<li>rewards for staking TLM in planetary DAOs;<\/li>\n<li>for landowners: a share of the planetary treasury and commissions from miners in TLM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mining yields were at their peak in early 2021, before TLM\u2019s listing on Binance. With basic tools it was possible to mine crypto worth a few dollars after a couple of hours of play. As the player base grew and TLM\u2019s price fell, returns dropped sharply.<\/p>\n<p>Specialised profitability calculators <a href=\"https:\/\/alienworlds.tools\/\">show<\/a> that as of October 2022, one free shovel yields no more than 2\u20134 TLM in 24 hours of continuous play\u2014worth under $0.10 at current prices. Buying more efficient NFT tools can multiply output and reduce time spent, but requires an upfront outlay of roughly $20\u201350.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-cards single_card\">\n<h2 class=\"card_label\"><strong>What problems does Alien Worlds face?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In 2021, amid the NFT and play\u2011to\u2011earn boom, Alien Worlds had hundreds of thousands of active players. Research suggests that a significant share of accounts were bots\u2014programs automating TLM mining. Although the developers tried to build robust anti\u2011bot protections, they appear not to have succeeded.<\/p>\n<p>A study <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefiant.io\/rogue-bots-are-draining-millions-of-dollars-from-wax-blockchains-star-dapp-alien-worlds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conducted in summer 2021<\/a> identified several large botnets, comprising thousands of accounts and capturing a substantial portion of the TLM allocated daily by planetary DAOs.<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, one botnet earned up to 160 TLM per minute\u2014about 10% of total daily token issuance. Another, controlling more than 6,000 accounts, earned and sold TLM and NFTs worth over $33m in a few months.<\/p>\n<p>Bot activity declined alongside TLM\u2019s price in spring 2022. Today, Alien Worlds bots sell for $200\u2013800, and a mining bot\u2019s source code has been published on GitHub.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-cards single_card\">\n<h2 class=\"card_label\"><strong>How is<\/strong> <strong>Alien Worlds evolving?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Alien Worlds aims to become a metaverse: offering varied gameplay and enabling third\u2011party developers to expand the world.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2022, applications opened for the <a href=\"https:\/\/alienworlds.medium.com\/alien-worlds-funds-metaverse-innovation-with-galactic-hubs-grant-program-applications-open-e6a7b9b521d9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Galactic Hubs grant programme<\/a> to support external teams building projects for the Alien Worlds metaverse and Web3 infrastructure around it.<\/p>\n<p>In July 2022, Dacoco <a href=\"https:\/\/alienworlds.medium.com\/zilliqa-partners-with-alien-worlds-to-expand-their-portfolio-of-competitive-blockchain-games-ahead-4df8057ca54f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partnered<\/a> with the high\u2011performance Zilliqa blockchain to create a gaming hub that will integrate esports projects already live on Zilliqa.<\/p>\n<p>The most anticipated update, announced in autumn 2021, is the <a href=\"https:\/\/alienworlds.zendesk.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/4410321198227-The-Thunderdome-Battling-on-Alien-Worlds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launch of Thunderdome<\/a>: a PvP arena in the style of Battle Royal.
