This was stated by Lieutenant General Michael Groen, head of the Pentagon&#8217;s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/Explore\/News\/Article\/Article\/2547622\/if-dod-wants-ai-in-its-future-it-must-start-now-official-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u043f\u0435\u0440\u0435\u0434\u0430\u0435\u0442<\/a> press service of the Department of Defense.<\/p>\n<p>Groen said data standardisation, cloud technologies, and the integration of AI into military operations are needed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00abLet current military use of AI be a step in the right direction, but it is not scalable [\u2026] If we want artificial intelligence to be our future, we must start creating it in the present,\u00bb said a Pentagon spokesperson.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Groen added that one priority should be the integration of the DoD networks into a single system. He called for a comprehensive and rapid transformation, noting that the Pentagon&#8217;s battle-management support systems should evolve.<\/p>\n<p>The lieutenant general also drew attention to China\u2019s plans to \u201cdominate in AI by 2030.\u201d The Pentagon, by contrast, is focusing on five-year programmatic targets set for 2027, Groen concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The general welcomed the Department of Defense\u2019s adoption in February 2020 of ethical principles for AI use implemented by the Joint AI Center.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the National Security AI Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/us-issues-recommendations-for-countering-china-in-ai\">published a report<\/a> on preserving the United States&#8217; technological dominance with recommendations for government and business leaders.<\/p>\n<p>A week later, the Chinese government <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/china-unveils-five-year-plan-with-emphasis-on-technological-dominance\">presented a five-year plan<\/a> to accelerate the development of leading technologies, including artificial intelligence and quantum computing.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, China <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/unsealing-three-hundred-year-old-letters-reviving-old-photographs-and-other-ai-news\">rose to the top<\/a> in AI-related scientific publications.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to ForkLog&#8217;s channel on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCC9FnXTC8_ENzaNSO5cHQ6g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> YouTube<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. armed forces must expand the use of artificial intelligence to avoid losing to competitors.
