An enthusiast tested the new Intel Xeon Ice Lake-SP server processors in Monero mining. Video<\/a> appeared on the TechTechPotato YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

The experiment showed that two 24-core Xeon Gold 6330 CPUs on the RandomXmonero algorithm yield $1.99 per day at a hash rate of 17 kH\/s. Together they draw 580 W of power.<\/p>\n

TechTechPotato used only half of the processor cores, due to the intensive bandwidth load. Each Xeon core has about 2.5 MB of L3 cache.<\/p>\n

The profitability of the server processors is comparable to the Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card, but the cost of the two CPUs is significantly higher, at roughly $3,800.<\/p>\n

Central processors were used for Bitcoin mining in the early stages of the industry, dating back to 2009. By comparison, the i7-990X delivered roughly 33 MH\/s.<\/p>\n

In the summer of 2010, Bitcoin’s price rose to $0.08. By the end of 2010, CPU mining had lost competitiveness due to GPUs appearing.<\/p>\n

Earlier ForkLog reported that enthusiasts used a portable gaming system Game Boy<\/a> based on a Sharp processor running at 4 MHz for Bitcoin mining.<\/p>\n

The system produced a hash rate of 0.8 H\/s. At the current Bitcoin price (above $60,000), mining $1 would take about 50,000 years.<\/p>\n
