Modern technologies will be used for goals such as materials development and environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>As part of the programme, 60 researchers will be recruited, and interns and students will be brought in to work under IBM Research and the UK Science and Technology Council at the Hartree Centre.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u2019Artificial intelligence and quantum computing can revolutionise everything\u2014from travel to the way we shop. These are the areas in which I want Britain to be a leader,\u2019 said Britain\u2019s science minister Amanda Solloway.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The Hartree Centre, opened in 2012 for high-performance computing, data analytics and AI research, is based at the Daresbury Laboratory, where research spans biomedicine, physics, chemistry, materials, engineering, computing and other fields.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The programme will form part of IBM&#8217;s Discovery Accelerator initiative on \u2018accelerating discoveries and innovations based on the convergence of advanced technologies.\u2019 It will be the first accelerator research centre in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in May, IBM<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/breakthrough-in-quantum-computing-sarcasm-detector-and-other-ai-news\"> announced a new breakthrough in quantum computing<\/a> and unveiled the Qiskit Runtime service, which speeds up data processing by 120 times.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>In April, the tech giant unveiled<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ibm-unveils-open-source-software-for-ai-training-on-quantum-computers\"> open-source software for training AI on quantum computers<\/a> Qiskit Machine Learning.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>In March 2019, IBM&#8217;s head of blockchain, Jess Lund, stated that quantum computing poses a threat to digital currencies and cryptography.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to ForkLog AI news on Telegram: <a href=\\\"https:\/\/t.me\/forklogAI\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\\\">ForkLog AI<\/a> \u2014 all the news from the AI world!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The British government and IBM have signed a collaboration agreement in artificial intelligence and quantum computing worth \u00a3210 million.
