The US Securities and Exchange Commission filed suit against him for promoting ICO projects, and the US Department of Justice over tax evasion.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2021, McAfee <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/john-mcafee-faces-up-to-100-years-in-prison-on-fraud-and-money-laundering-charges\">was accused of fraud and money laundering<\/a>. The maximum penalty under the seven-count indictment is 100 years in prison. The entrepreneur <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/john-mcafee-says-us-fraud-and-money-laundering-charges-are-overblown\">called<\/a> the legal claims \u201coverblown\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At the extradition hearings in court, McAfee <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/john-mcafee-says-u-s-charges-against-him-are-politically-motivated\">asserted that the charges against him were politically motivated<\/a>. Prosecutor Carlos Bautista rejected his assertion.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in June, McAfee <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/john-mcafee-says-all-cryptocurrency-holdings-have-vanished\">stated that he had lost all his cryptocurrency holdings<\/a>.
