However, the characters \u201c<\u201d, \u201c>\u201d and \u201c&#038;\u201d have been mistakenly replaced with their equivalents in the later HTML language \u2013 &#038;lt, &#038;gt and &amp;.<\/p>\n<p>PleasrDAO member Scott Berk noticed the error while reviewing the NFT for his <simple_tooltip content='decentralised autonomous organisation'>DAO<\/simple_tooltip> and on June 29 notified Sotheby\u2019s.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps the person who animated and coded the video did not have much experience with the C language,\u201d Berk said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to him, the error increased the NFT&#8217;s uniqueness and could potentially raise its value.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTypos in HTML are echoes of the World Wide Web itself. Without it there would be none of them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the other components of the NFT\u2014the source-code archive, the digital poster, and a letter from Tim Berners-Lee, the creator of the World Wide Web\u2014no errors were found.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Berk suggested that Sotheby\u2019s could augment the token with an updated video, although representatives from the auction house did not indicate such plans.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2021, Tim Berners-Lee personally voiced <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/world-wide-web-source-code-to-be-sold-as-an-nft\">with the idea of selling the code at auction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On June 30, the lot was acquired by <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/internet-source-code-sold-as-nft-for-5-4-million\">an unknown buyer for $5.4 million<\/a>.
