Podcast soon <a href=\\\"https:\/\/t.co\/4qPH0K3nVE\\\">pic.twitter.com\/4qPH0K3nVE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Inner City Press (@innercitypress) <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/innercitypress\/status\/1417565657311453193?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">July 20, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\n<\/p>\n<p> <script async=\\\"\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\\\" charset=\\\"utf-8\\\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>On July 10, the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/prosecutors-seek-remand-for-ethereum-researcher-griffith-in-custody-over-north-korea-ties\">called for remand in custody<\/a> over an attempt to access one of his frozen cryptocurrency accounts with assets of $1 million.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said this raised Griffith&#8217;s flight risk to an unacceptable level.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer Jason Gottlieb acknowledged the case was complex, but called it &#8216;madness&#8217; to detain someone for this alleged bail violation.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>In April 2019, Griffith attended a blockchain conference in Pyongyang. According to U.S. authorities, he told North Korea government officials about possibilities for using cryptocurrency to evade sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Griffith was arrested in November of the same year. He refused to plead guilty, and in January 2020 he was released on bail of $1 million.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>In the autumn, representatives of the developer <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-foundation-researcher-files-motion-to-dismiss-north-korea-sanctions-conspiracy-charges\">demanded<\/a> that charges of providing information assistance to North Korea be dropped.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>In January 2021, the court <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/court-rejects-defendants-bid-to-cooperate-with-north-korea-ethereum-developer\">rejected<\/a> Griffit&#8217;s motion.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The next hearing is scheduled for September 21.
