The Sydney-based Mawson Infrastructure Group ordered 17,352 ASIC miners from Canaan, the Chinese manufacturer said in a press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Under the terms of the agreement, Canaan will deliver Avalon A1166 and A1246 devices to Mawson’s facilities in Australia and the United States during 2021 and 2022.<\/p>\n

The batch’s total hash rate is estimated at 1.5 EH\/s.<\/p>\n

The order was a supplement to the previous agreement for Mawson’s purchase of 11,760 units of A1246<\/a> with a total hash rate of 1.05 EH\/s.<\/p>\n

In December 2019, Iterative Capital Management’s Leo Zhang suggested that Canaan might abandon mining-equipment production. The company lagged technologically behind rivals and largely focused on developing artificial intelligence chips AI<\/span>.<\/p>\n

In July 2020 the firm introduced new devices, but in energy efficiency the Avalon 1146 Pro and 1166 Pro lagged about 40% behind Bitmain and MicroBT miners.<\/p>\n

Canaan finally narrowed the gap to industry leaders in September, thanks to the AvalonMiner A1246.<\/p>\n
