In all cases a timelock function is in place.<\/p>\n<p>On 13 September 2021 at 00:44, the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/cardano-developers-enable-smart-contracts-on-the-mainnet\">Alonzo hard fork<\/a> occurred in the Cardano blockchain. The update enabled deploying Plutus smart contracts on the mainnet.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, developers warned that this was just the beginning. They said some early <span data-descr=\"decentralized applications\" class=\"old_tooltip\">dapps<\/span> may prove problematic, and some could be unsafe.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Forkast, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson stated that after the Alonzo hard fork <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-decentralised-finance-defi\">DeFi<\/a> is open to everyone.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cardano's Charles Hoskinson Says DeFi Is \u201cUp For Grabs\u201d\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y2zTnXyiNGM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>According to Hoskinson, leaders of the &#8216;second wave&#8217; of DeFi will gain liquidity, predictable fees, functional interoperability, and the ability to deploy their applications across multiple networks.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;We need governance, certification, insurance, regulation, metadata identification, [\u2026] in the meantime decentralisation. Cardano was built for this&#8221;<\/em>, said he.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As of writing, ADA trades at around $2.39, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\">CoinGecko<\/a>.
