He said new participants should join the initiative on an anonymous basis.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dear Bitcoiners<\/p>\n<p>I decided to step down as Bitcoin Core maintainer and contributor.<\/p>\n<p>The last years where amazing and I coded, discussed and learned so much!<\/p>\n<p>I started contributing in 2013 and went full time in 2015. What happened? Sometimes interests change, and you can&#8217;t do anything about it. Also, I feel that legal risks for Bitcoin developers are growing every year (this can be stressful),\u00bb \u2014 Schnelli wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He believes that over the past years the Bitcoin Core team has attracted many \u201cexperienced and highly skilled\u201d developers, and the client is now \u201cin the best hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schnelli emphasised that he is not seeking a new role or project. He plans to take a leave of absence for several months. At the same time, he will remain an active participant in the cryptocurrency community.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00abI\u2019ll be hanging around here and will continue to write interesting thoughts about Bitcoin (and I won\u2019t stop criticising noisy hecklers),\u00bb Schnelli wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Schnelli joined the Bitcoin Core team in 2013, and has been full-time since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, in January 2021 the Nasdaq-listed mining company Marathon Patent Group <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-core-developer-jonas-schnelli-to-receive-a-96000-grant-from-marathon\">awarded Schnelli a grant of $96 000<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Bitcoin Core was funded by Bitmain, but in December 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitmain-ends-funding-for-bitcoin-core-developers\">the equipment maker discontinued the program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Follow ForkLog\u2019s news on VK <a href=\"https:\/\/vk.com\/forklogcom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">VK<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the leading Bitcoin Core developers, Jonas Schnelli, has left the project due to shifting priorities and rising legal risks associated with writing code for the world\u2019s first cryptocurrency.
