The libertarian-leaning American politician Rand Paul, in an Axios interview, expressed optimism about the prospects for cryptocurrencies in the global financial system, calling fiat money ‘unreliable’.<\/p>\n

“Government money \u2014 so unreliable! I began to wonder whether cryptocurrency could fulfill the role of world money, as more and more people lose faith in the government,” said Rand Paul, the son of Senator Ron Paul.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The interviewer Michael Allen noted that such a message made Rand Paul a “rock star in the eyes of young people” during the 2016 presidential campaign. It was notable for the fact that the Kentucky senator accepted donations in bitcoin.<\/p>\n

“If I could decide, I would make it possible to exchange cryptocurrencies for stocks,” Paul said in 2014. “That would give them real value. I would make it indexable and have a basket of ten major retailers.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Earlier in September, SkyBridge Capital chief Anthony Scaramucci expressed the belief<\/a> that Bitcoin would become a global reserve currency.<\/p>\n
