{"id":52367,"date":"2021-11-05T09:47:59","date_gmt":"2021-11-05T07:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=52367"},"modified":"2025-09-03T09:53:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T06:53:12","slug":"u-s-state-department-offers-10-million-for-information-on-darkside-hackers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/u-s-state-department-offers-10-million-for-information-on-darkside-hackers\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. State Department offers $10 million for information on DarkSide hackers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/reward-offers-for-information-to-bring-darkside-ransomware-variant-co-conspirators-to-justice\/\">offered<\/a> a reward for information leading to the identification of members of the DarkSide hacking group.<\/p>\n<p>For information on the organizers and leaders of DarkSide, American authorities are prepared to pay up to $10 million.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the State Department has offered up to $5 million for information leading to the arrest of individuals involved in the DarkSide ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2021, hackers <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hackers-from-russia-linked-to-colonial-pipeline-attack-via-ransomware\">attacked Colonial Pipeline<\/a>, which supplies fuel to about 45% of the population on the U.S. East Coast. The breach disrupted the pipeline&#8217;s operations.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/media-colonial-pipeline-paid-hackers-a-5-million-ransom-in-cryptocurrency\">paid the attackers 75 BTC<\/a>. Shortly thereafter, the group <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/elliptic-bitcoin-wallet-used-by-darkside-hackers-has-received-17-5m-since-march\">announced<\/a> the suspension of its activities.<\/p>\n<p>In June, the FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/fbi-recovers-63-7-btc-from-colonial-pipeline-ransom-gains-access-to-a-bitcoin-wallet\">returned<\/a> a large portion of the ransom paid.
