{"id":52504,"date":"2021-11-08T17:06:11","date_gmt":"2021-11-08T15:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=52504"},"modified":"2025-09-03T10:33:37","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T07:33:37","slug":"morgan-stanley-forecasts-banks-will-offer-stablecoin-deposits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/morgan-stanley-forecasts-banks-will-offer-stablecoin-deposits\/","title":{"rendered":"Morgan Stanley forecasts banks will offer stablecoin deposits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Banks are set to profit from demand for stablecoin deposits as the market grows exponentially, according to a report by Morgan Stanley&#8217;s top cryptocurrency strategist Shina Sho, cited by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2021\/11\/08\/banking-industry-likely-to-capitalize-on-stablecoin-deposit-demand-says-morgan-stanley\/\">CoinDesk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report notes the market for stablecoins has grown from $20 billion at the start of the year to $137.7 billion currently.<\/p>\n<p>Stablecoins can offer yields of more than 5% per year on crypto deposits and provide access to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-decentralised-finance-defi\">DeFi<\/a>-sector. Sho believes regulators and governments will inevitably respond.<\/p>\n<p>According to the strategist, cryptocurrencies trade on par with risky assets thanks to active use of leverage, as well as fiscal and monetary stimulus.<\/p>\n<p>She also noted growing institutional interest in digital assets. Altcoins are pulling market share away from Bitcoin due to lower USD prices and a range of use cases, Sho added. She said the &#8216;battle of blockchains&#8217; is likely to continue.<\/p>\n<p>As institutional interest in cryptocurrencies has grown, there is a rising risk that Bitcoin becomes more concentrated in the hands of a small group of investors, the expert added.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Morgan Stanley <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/morgan-stanley-to-establish-cryptocurrency-research-unit\">created<\/a> a cryptocurrency-analytics unit, elevating Shina Sho to the role of chief cryptocurrency strategist. Previously, she had served as the head of currency-market strategy.<\/p>\n<p>In October, the investment bank <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/morgan-stanley-reportedly-advised-advisors-to-refrain-from-buying-bitcoin-futures-etf-for-clients\">advised<\/a> its advisers to refrain from recommending <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-cryptocurrency-etf\">Bitcoin ETFs<\/a> to clients.
