Polish authorities released from custody the former owner of the WEX cryptocurrency exchange, Dmitry Vasilyev. About this \u043f\u0438\u0448\u0435\u0442<\/a> \u0420\u0411\u041a.<\/p>\n

In a statement to the publication, Vasilyev said he was released on December 7 and subsequently travelled to Russia. The former WEX head’s lawyer Krzysztof Brola clarified that the court has not yet rendered a final decision in the case:<\/p>\n

\u00abYes, he [Vasilyev] is at liberty. The Polish court has barred his extradition to Kazakhstan, but the decision is not final yet.\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Earlier, in July 2018, due to ‘technical works,’ the WEX exchange halted full withdrawals. Meanwhile, according to Dmitry Vasilyev, a contract transferring ownership of WEX was signed with the former DNR fighter Dmitry ‘Moryachko’ Khavchenko.<\/p>\n

In August of the same year, news emerged of the exchange’s bankruptcy and the suspension of its operations. An initiative group of the exchange’s clients estimated losses exceeded $400 million. Vasilyev personally is credited with withdrawing $200 million.<\/p>\n

In spring 2019, Kazakh law enforcement authorities, in absentia, named him a suspect in fraud and issued an international arrest warrant.<\/p>\n

In September 2021, the Warsaw district prosecutor’s office confirmed the detention and arrest of Vasilyev<\/a> on the basis of an Interpol warrant at Kazakhstan’s request.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, from one of WEX’s wallets an unknown person withdrew 100 ETH<\/a>. The funds were transferred to the Binance exchange.<\/p>\n
