{"id":56583,"date":"2022-01-25T17:47:24","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T15:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=56583"},"modified":"2025-09-04T07:12:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T04:12:44","slug":"blockfi-secures-bermuda-licence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/blockfi-secures-bermuda-licence\/","title":{"rendered":"BlockFi secures Bermuda licence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The crypto lending platform BlockFi <a href=\\\"https:\/\/blockfi.com\/blockfi-selects-bermuda-to-expand-global-operations-footprint-with-new-digital-asset-business-license\\\">announced<\/a> that its subsidiary has obtained a licence from the Bermuda Monetary Authority to carry on financial activities in the digital-asset sector.<\/p>\n<p>According to the press release, the regulator&#8217;s approval will allow BlockFi to &#8220;concentrate its existing products and services for retail and institutional clients outside the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company will also open a new office in the jurisdiction, which will be partly staffed by local employees.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>&#8220;This licence and the robust regulatory framework provided by Bermuda form a solid foundation for our global business,&#8221; said BlockFi founder and CEO Zac Prince.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He added that the firm expects to cooperate with the regulator as it expands operations through its subsidiary, BlockFi International.<\/p>\n<p>Walkers Global acted as legal counsel in the licensing process.<\/p>\n<p>As reported in November 2021, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bloomberg-sec-opens-investigation-into-blockfi\">initiated an investigation<\/a> into BlockFi.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to that, the firm had already faced regulatory problems at the state level.
