{"id":57628,"date":"2022-02-12T16:23:30","date_gmt":"2022-02-12T14:23:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=57628"},"modified":"2025-09-04T12:39:31","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T09:39:31","slug":"netflix-announces-series-about-those-involved-in-bitfinex-stolen-assets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/netflix-announces-series-about-those-involved-in-bitfinex-stolen-assets\/","title":{"rendered":"Netflix announces series about those involved in Bitfinex-stolen assets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Netflix <a href=\"https:\/\/about.netflix.com\/en\/news\/netflix-orders-doc-series-about-alleged-cryptocurrency-laundering-scheme\">will show<\/a> a documentary series about the accused in laundering assets stolen from the Bitfinex exchange, Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan.<\/p>\n<p>The director of the project will be Chris Smith \u2014 the director of the documentary films FYRE: The Festival That Never Happened, The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann and Jim &#038; Andy: The Great Beyond, previously released by Netflix.<\/p>\n<p>On February 8, Lichtenstein and Morgan <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/u-s-authorities-confiscated-3-6-billion-in-bitcoin-stolen-from-bitfinex\">arrested<\/a> on charges of laundering 119 754 BTC stolen from Bitfinex in 2016. Authorities said they confiscated Bitcoin worth $3.6 billion from them. They face up to 25 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>If recovered, Bitfinex representatives pledged to within 18 months allocate 80% of them to a buyback and burn of the UNUS SED LEO tokens, as set out in the white paper.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Lichtenstein and Morgan <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/suspects-tied-to-bitfinex-stolen-assets-remain-jailed-on-8-million-bail\">not released on bail of $8 million<\/a>, despite a magistrate judge&#8217;s order in the Southern District of New York granting them such a right.<\/p>\n<p>Bitfinex CTO Paolo Ardoino said authorities still need to identify other participants.
