{"id":58486,"date":"2022-03-03T15:19:18","date_gmt":"2022-03-03T13:19:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=58486"},"modified":"2025-09-04T17:02:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T14:02:08","slug":"russia-to-press-on-with-cryptocurrency-legalization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/russia-to-press-on-with-cryptocurrency-legalization\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia to press on with cryptocurrency legalization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The expert council of the State Duma&#8217;s Working Group on the Legislative Regulation of cryptocurrencies will hold a meeting to discuss the bill &#8220;On Digital Currency&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>According to a document obtained by the Bitnalog project-team, one item on the agenda will be &#8220;analysis and ways to mitigate the central bank-identified risks&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\\\"https:\/\/telegram.org\/js\/telegram-widget.js?16\\\" data-telegram-post=\\\"bitnalog\/244\\\" data-tme-mode data-width=\\\"100%\\\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The bill introduced by the Ministry of Finance <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/investment-caps-and-court-voided-trades-analysis-of-the-digital-currency-bill\">regulates<\/a> the circulation and issuance of cryptocurrencies in the Russian Federation. The document equates digital currencies with property and prohibits their use as a means of payment.<\/p>\n<p>In January the Central Bank <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-proposes-ban-on-issuance-circulation-and-mining-of-cryptocurrencies-in-russia\">expressed support for banning the circulation and mining of digital assets<\/a> in the country. The regulator voiced the proposals in the report &#8220;Risks of cryptocurrencies and possible regulatory measures&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>According to the media, the agencies <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/finance-ministry-and-bank-of-russia-fail-to-agree-on-regulating-the-crypto-industry\">unsuccessfully sought to align their positions<\/a>, and the Central Bank <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bank-of-russia-drafts-amendments-to-the-on-digital-financial-assets-law-to-ban-cryptocurrency-circulation-in-russia\">introduced amendments envisaging a ban<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Experts <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/lawyers-on-the-digital-currency-bill-its-easier-to-give-up-bitcoin-than-to-work-under-these-rules\">criticised the Ministry of Finance&#8217;s proposed regulatory framework<\/a>, including for errors in the conceptual apparatus.
