{"id":59657,"date":"2022-04-05T21:51:07","date_gmt":"2022-04-05T18:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=59657"},"modified":"2025-09-04T23:03:34","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T20:03:34","slug":"hydra-and-the-garantex-cryptocurrency-exchange-sanctioned-by-the-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/hydra-and-the-garantex-cryptocurrency-exchange-sanctioned-by-the-united-states\/","title":{"rendered":"Hydra and the Garantex cryptocurrency exchange sanctioned by the United States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Treasury Department <a href=\\\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/jy0701\\\">imposed sanctions<\/a> on the darknet marketplace Hydra and the cryptocurrency exchange Garantex.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) identified <a href=\\\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/policy-issues\/financial-sanctions\/recent-actions\/20220405\\\">more than 100 cryptocurrency addresses<\/a> linked to illicit transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Investigation found that Hydra accounts processed around $8 million linked to ransomware proceeds, including Ryuk, Sodinokibi and Conti.<\/p>\n<p>An analysis of known Garantex transactions showed that operations totaling more than $100 million were linked to illicit entities and darknet marketplaces. Of these, nearly $6 million came from the Russian hacking group Conti and about $2.6 million from Hydra.<\/p>\n<p>OFAC blocked any property of Hydra and Garantex within the United States.
