Ira Kleinman’s lawyers, representing the brother of the late computer forensics expert and mathematician Dave Kleinman, appealed the ruling in the case against the self-proclaimed creator of Bitcoin Craig Wright. Reuters<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

The plaintiff was dissatisfied with the denial of the new proceeding, all the ‘previous rulings’ and final decision<\/a>, issued in March 2022. Under that ruling, Wright was ordered to pay W&K Info Defense Research a total of $143 million.<\/p>\n

The agency contends that the basis for a new proceeding was Kleinman’s belief that the defendant’s lawyers allegedly swayed the jurors against him. According to him, the defense team repeatedly said that Dave and Ira lived separately, and that the latter ‘had not seen his brother for more than three years’.<\/p>\n

\\”I won the first time, and I fully expect to win again,\\” Wright said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In February 2018, Ira Kleinman filed suit against Craig Wright. The plaintiff accused Wright of misappropriating 1.1 million BTC believed to belong to Dave Kleinman, who has been linked with the creation of the first cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n

At that time, WizSec researchers found that the Bitcoin addresses cited in the suit had never belonged to Kleinman or Wright.<\/p>\n

In August 2019, a court in the Southern District of Florida ordered Wright to pay 500,000 BTC. The self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto declined to participate in the settlement of claims. The proceedings were resumed.<\/p>\n

In May 2020, 145 early Bitcoin addresses signed a statement accusing Wright of fraud and perjury. He claimed that these addresses belonged to him.<\/p>\n

In September of the same year, the court denied<\/a> Wright’s motion for expedited proceedings. Earlier, he had stated that the statute of limitations had run, and the plaintiff could not prove an oral agreement.<\/p>\n

The defense of the self-proclaimed creator of Bitcoin rested on two aspects: a diagnosed autism spectrum disorder and the absence of a written agreement with Kleinman. According to the defense attorney, due to autism, her client and Kleinman understood differently<\/a> the word ‘partner’.<\/p>\n

Back in December 2021, a jury rejected Wright’s claims and held that he should compensate W&K Info Defense Research $100 million<\/a> for the conversion<\/span> of the ‘misappropriated’ bitcoins.<\/p>\n
