The community&#8217;s disagreement with this policy was also noted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cBitcoin and Ethereum use <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-the-proof-of-work-pow-algorithm\">Proof-of-Work<\/a>, consuming a huge amount of energy [\u2026] current models continue to inflict an extremely high harm on the environment. Although there are \u201cmore eco-friendly\u201d cryptocurrencies, they are not as popular\u201d<\/em>, the proposal said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Wikipedia has accepted donations in Bitcoin since 2014. Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum are also accepted. The organization immediately converts received cryptocurrencies into fiat.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021 crypto donations accounted for 0.08% of total receipts (about $130,100).
