{"id":60160,"date":"2022-04-15T10:48:48","date_gmt":"2022-04-15T07:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=60160"},"modified":"2025-09-05T01:46:14","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T22:46:14","slug":"banco-de-portugal-issues-first-cryptocurrency-licence-to-a-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/banco-de-portugal-issues-first-cryptocurrency-licence-to-a-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Banco de Portugal issues first cryptocurrency licence to a bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bison Bank, the first among Portuguese banks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bportugal.pt\/en\/page\/registration-virtual-assets-service-providers-0\">\u043f\u043e\u043b\u0443\u0447\u0438\u043b<\/a> from Banco de Portugal a licence as a virtual asset service provider (VASP).<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/eco.sapo.pt\/2022\/04\/14\/bison-bank-anuncia-primeiro-criptobanco-em-portugal-apos-autorizacao-do-regulador\/\">ECO<\/a>, the company will create a dedicated unit, Bison Digital Assets, to operate as a cryptocurrency exchange and custodian.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the first bank-owned legal entity in Portugal licensed to provide deposit and trading services in the digital assets space, emphasised by Bison Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Bison Digital Assets will focus on high-net-worth clients in line with the parent company&#8217;s strategy. Details on which cryptocurrencies the financial institution will allow trading have not been disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Bison Bank provides deposit and investment-banking services to individuals and institutional clients.
