But the wheels of justice turn slowly,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www-cnbc-com.translate.goog\/2022\/04\/14\/ripples-court-battle-with-sec-has-gone-exceedingly-well-ceo-says.html?_x_tr_sl=auto&#038;_x_tr_tl=ru&#038;_x_tr_hl=ru\">said<\/a> the head of the firm.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He stressed that the case is important not only for Ripple but for the entire crypto industry in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>According to Garlinghouse, a loss for the company would set a precedent, potentially leading the SEC to classify most tokens on exchanges as securities.<\/p>\n<p>This would mean trading platforms would have to register with the Commission and verify all token holders.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIf you classify XRP as a Ripple security, we must know every person who owns XRP. This is the SEC&#8217;s requirement. You must know all of your shareholders. This is impossible,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www-cnbc-com.translate.goog\/2022\/04\/14\/ripples-court-battle-with-sec-has-gone-exceedingly-well-ceo-says.html?_x_tr_sl=auto&#038;_x_tr_tl=ru&#038;_x_tr_hl=ru\">added<\/a> Garlinghouse.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the event of a Ripple victory, he believes the regulator could soften its aggressive stance toward the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Garlinghouse&#8217;s statement came after <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/court-flags-sec-position-as-contradictory-in-ripple-case\"> the Commission could not obtain<\/a> a review of the confidentiality of certain documents under the <span data-descr=\"deliberative process privilege\" class=\"old_tooltip\">DPP<\/span>. They relate to the 2018 speech by former director of the regulator&#8217;s corporate finance division William Hinman \u2014 at that time the official stated that Bitcoin and Ethereum are not securities.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Ripple&#8217;s CEO criticized the SEC for failing to provide clear legal norms for the industry.
