The appointment is confirmed on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/hunter-merghart-a93b301\/\">LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Until June 2021, Merghart led Bitstamp&#8217;s U.S. unit, having previously spent two years as head of the trading desk at Coinbase. The appointment at Millennium will not prevent him from remaining a partner at Castle Island Ventures.<\/p>\n<p>Merghart entered the crypto industry in 2018, after 12 years at Barclays, RBC Capital Markets and Credit Suisse.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblockcrypto.com\/post\/144737\/hunter-merghart-joining-millennium-to-plot-firms-crypto-strategy\">The Block<\/a>, the executive will oversee strategy development and trading operations. Millennium Management has been building its digital-assets unit since 2020. In April 2021 the firm invested in Bitcoin through the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust.<\/p>\n<p>A month later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2021\/05\/13\/hedge-fund-giants-millennium-matrix-and-point72-standing-up-defi-funds-sources\/\">CoinDesk<\/a> reported that Millennium Management, Point72 Asset Management and Matrix Capital Management were at different stages of launching cryptocurrency funds.<\/p>\n<p>As reported in March 2022, Citadel&#8217;s chief executive Kenneth Griffin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.io\/ceo-citadel-priznal-svoj-skeptitsizm-kasatelno-kriptovalyut-oshibochnym\/\">\u043f\u0440\u0438\u0437\u043d\u0430\u043b<\/a> that his skepticism about cryptocurrencies had been mistaken.
