He was sentenced to two years&#8217; probation with six months of home detention, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2022\/05\/20\/former-bitmex-ceo-arthur-hayes-sentenced-to-2-years-probation\/\">CoinDesk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hayes&#8217;s deal with the government contemplated a prison sentence of six to twelve months. The charges against him carried the potential for real imprisonment of up to 10 years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00abI deeply regret participating in this criminal activity. My best years lie ahead\u2026 I am ready to turn the page and start anew. I ask to be allowed to return home with deep remorse and the opportunity to begin the next chapter of my life\u00bb, said Hayes in the courtroom.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Within 30 days he must choose a place to serve house arrest, after successful completion he will be able to travel the world, according to the judge&#8217;s ruling. Hayes will also have the opportunity to communicate with BitMEX co-founders Samuel Reed and Ben Delo.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2020 the U.S. Department of Justice and <span data-descr=\"U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CFTC<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/cftc-sues-bitmex-and-its-founders\">filed<\/a> lawsuits against Hayes, Delo, Reed and BitMEX&#8217;s head of business development Greg Dwyer for violating the Bank Secrecy Act and the rules governing <span data-descr=\"Know Your Customer (KYC)\" class=\"old_tooltip\">KYC<\/span>\/<span data-descr=\"anti-money laundering\" class=\"old_tooltip\">AML<\/span>-procedures.<\/p>\n<p>In the same month Reed was arrested in the U.S. and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitmex-cto-samuel-reed-released-on-5-million-bond\">released on a $5 million bail<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/court-frees-bitmex-co-founder-on-20-million-bond\">Delo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/former-bitmex-chief-surrenders-to-u-s-authorities-released-on-10-million-bond\">Hayes<\/a> surrendered to U.S. authorities in March and April 2021 respectively.
