The seller claims the data were obtained in a breach of the Shanghai police.<\/p>\n<p>The database reportedly contains names, addresses, places of birth, documents, phone numbers of PRC citizens and case materials. Breach Forums blocked the sale post.<\/p>\n<p>Several users have said the posted data is up to date. If the breach is confirmed in full, it would rank among the largest leaks in the country&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<p>Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao said the company detected the sale of data on one billion residents on the dark web from \u201cone Asian country.\u201d He suggested the incident arose from a bug in an Elastic Search deployment by an unnamed government agency.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Our threat intelligence detected 1 billion resident records for sell in the dark web, including name, address, national id, mobile, police and medical records from one asian country. This has impact on \u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CZ \ud83d\udd36 Binance (@cz_binance) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1543700689611792386?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 3, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Zhao added that Binance has strengthened checks on users potentially affected by the breach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-07-04\/hackers-claim-theft-of-police-info-in-china-s-largest-data-leak?sref=AACmJ2tc\">Bloomberg<\/a>, citing cybersecurity experts, writes that hackers could have accessed Shanghai police data through an external cloud-infrastructure partner.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier unknown hackers <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/leak-of-pro-kremlin-hackers-data-google-global-cache-disconnections-in-russia-and-other-cybersecurity-developments\">hacked<\/a> the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region police databases in China and gained access to thousands of photographs of Uyghurs who had been subjected to repression.
