This figure is roughly ten times higher than today, <a href=\"https:\/\/arcane.no\/research\/how-much-energy-will-bitcoin-consume-in-the-future\" title=\"\u043e\u0442\u043c\u0435\u0442\u0438\u043b\">noted<\/a> by Jaran Mellerud, an analyst at Arcane Research.<\/p>\n<p>According to his estimates, at a Bitcoin price of $500,000 the annual energy consumption would be 223 TWh, just over twice current levels.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"795\" height=\"407\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Est-Energy-Consumption.png\" alt=\"Arcane Research analyst forecasts Bitcoin network energy consumption in 2040\" class=\"wp-image-182618\" srcset=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Est-Energy-Consumption.png 795w, https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Est-Energy-Consumption-300x154.png 300w, https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Est-Energy-Consumption-768x393.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><figcaption>Projected level of Bitcoin energy consumption at various Bitcoin prices. Data: Arcane Research.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIf the price of Bitcoin reaches $2 million by 2040 and transaction fees remain at historically average levels, the share of digital gold in global energy consumption would be 0.36%,\u201d wrote Mellerud.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The graph above shows that Arcane Research&#8217;s pessimistic scenario assumes Bitcoin at around $100,000.
