This was reported by Ethereum developer Preston Van Loon.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/github?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@github<\/a> has unbanned the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TornadoCash?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TornadoCash<\/a> organization and contributors on their platform! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ktdghDQKx8\">https:\/\/t.co\/ktdghDQKx8<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Md17vFE9DZ\">https:\/\/t.co\/Md17vFE9DZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 prestonvanloon.eth (@preston_vanloon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/preston_vanloon\/status\/1572958754395811841?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 22, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Tornado Cash code repositories <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/orgs\/tornadocash\/repositories\">are read-only<\/a>. GitHub has not yet restored full functionality.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;But this is progress compared with a full ban. I still urge GitHub to reverse all actions and restore the repositories to their previous status,&#8221; said Van Loon.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The restoration of Tornado Cash on GitHub followed the <span data-descr=\"Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury\" class=\"old_tooltip\">OFAC<\/span> statement that &#8220;interacting with open-source software [the mixer] is not prohibited&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in August, OFAC added Tornado Cash to the sanctions list on suspicion of laundering more than <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/us-sanctions-tornado-cash-the-ethereum-mixer\">$7 billion in cryptocurrency<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On August 12, Dutch authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/in-amsterdam-authorities-arrest-alleged-tornado-cash-developer\">arrested<\/a> the developer of the service, Alexey Pertsev.
