{"id":68179,"date":"2022-10-06T12:19:28","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T09:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=68179"},"modified":"2025-09-07T12:43:01","modified_gmt":"2025-09-07T09:43:01","slug":"eu-fully-bans-cryptocurrency-services-for-russians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/eu-fully-bans-cryptocurrency-services-for-russians\/","title":{"rendered":"EU fully bans cryptocurrency services for Russians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The European Union has approved the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_22_5989\">\u0432\u043e\u0441\u044c\u043c\u043e\u0439 \u043f\u0430\u043a\u0435\u0442 \u0441\u0430\u043d\u043a\u0446\u0438\u0439 \u043f\u0440\u043e\u0442\u0438\u0432 \u0420\u0424<\/a>, in which it bans Russians from owning cryptocurrency wallets within the euro area.<\/p>\n<p>Russian citizens and residents will also be unable to create accounts or hold digital assets in the EU, regardless of the deposit amount.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the sanctions include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>setting a price cap on maritime transport of Russian oil and further restrictions on the export of oil products to third countries;<\/li>\n<li>ban on all operations with the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping;<\/li>\n<li>ban on providing IT, engineering, legal and architectural services to Russian companies;<\/li>\n<li>ban on exports to the Russian Federation of coal, electronic components for weapons, aviation equipment and chemical substances;<\/li>\n<li>ban on imports from the Russian Federation of steel, timber, paper, cigarettes, plastics, cosmetics, jewellery and precious metals;<\/li>\n<li>ban on the sale of civilian firearms, military vehicles and equipment in the Russian Federation;<\/li>\n<li>ban on EU citizens occupying leadership posts in Russian state-owned companies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The sanctions also apply to areas not under Kyiv&#8217;s control in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the EU has provided for penalties for participants in schemes to circumvent the restrictions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-text-wrappers-update-2 article_update\"><time class=\"gtb_text-wrappers_update_time\">6 October 2022 | 19:12<\/time><span class=\"gtb_text-wrappers_update_head\">Update: <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The sanctions have entered into force \u2013 the corresponding legal acts were published <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/PDF\/?uri=OJ:L:2022:259I:FULL&#038;from=EN\">\u0432 \u041e\u0444\u0438\u0446\u0438\u0430\u043b\u044c\u043d\u043e\u043c \u0436\u0443\u0440\u043d\u0430\u043b\u0435 \u0415\u0432\u0440\u043e\u0441\u043e\u044e\u0437\u0430<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the European Commission&#8217;s estimates, the measures will reduce Russia&#8217;s revenues by at least \u20ac7 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the EU adopted the fifth package of sanctions against Russia.
