Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and his wife Lori Huang donated<\/a> $50 million to Oregon State University to establish a science and education center for AI.<\/p>\n

The complex, with a total cost of $200 million, will house one of the most powerful supercomputers in the United States. The center will use it to conduct research in artificial intelligence, materials science, and robotics to address global challenges.<\/p>\n

The complex will also serve as a hub for university education focused on the semiconductor industry in Oregon and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled by this extraordinary generosity and commitment to advancing scientific discoveries and solving problems,\u201d said Jayathi Murthy, president of Oregon State University.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to her, the three-story center, covering about 14,000 square meters, is in the design phase. The complex is expected to open in 2025.<\/p>\n

Murthy added that the center is part of Oregon’s efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in education and research STEM<\/span>.<\/p>\n

According to the Huangs, AI is one of the most promising technologies of our time.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo harness this power, engineering students need access to a supercomputer […]. This AI-powered facility will enable them to achieve significant advances in climate science, oceanography, materials science, robotics and other fields,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The backbone of the supercomputer is expected to be Nvidia DGX SuperPOD and OVX SuperPOD GPUs. The heat generated by the data center is planned to be used to heat the university campus.<\/p>\n

The institution has already raised more than $100 million in donations.<\/p>\n

In September Nvidia unveiled a range of new chips and services<\/a> for AI. Among them are the Drive Thor autonomous vehicle platform, the Omniverse Cloud Services cloud platform, and the NeMo LLM language model.<\/p>\n

In April, the company said it was using GPUs and machine-learning algorithms to create new chips<\/a>.<\/p>\n
