For now, it can be used only for new non-fungible token (NFT) collections.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"twitter-tweet\\\">\n<p lang=\\\"en\\\" dir=\\\"ltr\\\">There\u2019s been a lot of discussion over the past few months about business models for NFT creators &#038; whether creator fees (\u201croyalties\u201d) are viable. <\/p>\n<p>Given our role in the ecosystem, we want to take a thoughtful, principled approach to this topic &#038; to lead w\/ solutions. \ud83e\uddf5<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 OpenSea (@opensea) <a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/opensea\/status\/1589058770646491136?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\\\">November 6, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async=\\\"\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\\\" charset=\\\"utf-8\\\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s clear that many creators want to be able to charge on-chain fees. We believe the choice should be theirs, not the marketplace,\u201d OpenSea explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>From November 8, the platform will begin charging royalties only on those new collections that use the relevant tool.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u201cIn the coming months we will launch additional options and improvements for fees on new collections. We will engage with the community to obtain feedback along the way,\u201d OpenSea said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The marketplace team said it is already considering alternatives to help authors of existing collections navigate changes in the NFT market.<\/p>\n<p>For now, they promised no changes at least until December 8. In that case OpenSea also plans to discuss the innovations with the community.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u201cWe recognise that not all creators, collections and communities are the same, and we are committed to developing a long-term policy that reflects this,\u201d the marketplace noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier, the Solana-based NFT platform Magic Eden <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/nft-marketplace-magic-eden-scraps-mandatory-royalties\">eliminated mandatory royalties.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In October, OpenSea <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/opensea-adds-support-for-avalanche-nfts\">added<\/a> support for Avalanche-based NFTs, increasing the number of networks available to seven.<\/p>\n<p>Read ForkLog\u2019s Bitcoin news on our Telegram \u2014 crypto news, prices and analysis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The OpenSea marketplace has rolled out a royalties tool.
