The system will prompt users to undergo verification if it suspects a violation of the platform&#8217;s rules prohibiting access to the service by children and teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>To verify age, users must submit a copy of a government-issued ID or upload a selfie video. The system will analyze facial features to estimate age without identifying the person.<\/p>\n<p>According to company representatives, the technology will help prevent children from accessing features designed for adults. The system is not intended to verify the actual age of adult users, but the age indicated in the profile.<\/p>\n<p>The facial-recognition technology was developed by Yoti. According to its data, the accuracy of identifying 13- to 17-year-olds as under 23 is 99.65%.<\/p>\n<p>However, the company acknowledged shortcomings. According to internal Yoti studies, the accuracy of age recognition for women and people with darker skin tones is &#8216;worse&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Meta also assured that neither the company nor its partners store user data.<\/p>\n<p>In November, Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/instagram-launches-face-based-age-verification-in-the-united-kingdom\">launched facial-age verification<\/a> in the United Kingdom.
